Glory Assisted Living is now closed as of July 31, 2011.
SInce January 1, 2007 Glory Assited Living has served many families in need of a loving, caring home. We are honored to have this experience in service to the elder community. We regret that we are currently closed and hope one day to re-invent ourselves in a new location. Thank you to all the wonderful professionals who assisted us in "creating a home away from home" Thank you to all the families who trusted us and depended upon us to treat their family as our own.
We are licensed to accept up to 15 ambulatory and non-ambulatory seniors in total. Glory's ground floor layout, and more importantly, our approach to care, allows us to create "a home away from home," and that's what distinguishes us from other assisted living options. We are a home; so one will not find the "busy-ness" of a lobby replete with many people passing through each day. We are not a resort-style community where everything is so spread out, however, we provide the service akin to fine hotels. Residents enjoy living here because they appreciate the no frills quality of care, the home cooked meals and the peace and serenity that comes along with living in an intimate, "family-like" environment.
What distinguishes us at GLORY is we are a family guided by loving, spiritual principles in our approach to care. Once a resident moves in he or she is treated and recognized as an esteemed member of our family.
GLORY is a proud member of the Hayward Chamber of Commerce and is very active in the community. GLORY is also a proud "A rated" member of the Better Business Bureau; we run an ethical business which is high in integrity and satisfaction.
At GLORY, we are a private pay facility. We do assist those who are former military personnel and their spouses in obtaining the aid and attendance available from the Veteran's Administration. Many families and residents provide the rent and payment for services with a combination of pension, social security, savings and assistance from family. Those who have Medical and Medicare receive assistance with their medications, however, since we are not a skilled nursing home, insurance does not pay for daily rents.
Those who have Medicare and Medical insurance may be attended by our "House" Doctor who makes regular and "on-call" visits here, thereby eliminating the need for transportation to the hospital in many instances. Although, we are within five minutes from Kaiser Hayward and St. Rose Hospitals when an emergency need arises.
Our services are all inclusive for care, including Cable TV, nationwide phone calls, haircuts, laundry service, medication management, all meals and snacks, bathing assistance and even trips to the doctor and the dentist in many cases.
So, one monthly payment includes all of our services, there are no extra costs added on for services, care and supervision.
Transportation for medical appointments fall under the responsiblity of the family, in many cases however, we make arrangements for our residents to utilize the different options available: East Bay Paratransit and Hayward Paratransit when apporpriate, is an option for ambulatory seniors.
When necessary, a taxi cab or car service may also be used. In cases where the resident does not have a relative or friend to bring him or her to an appointment, we are happy to provide the transportation free of charge, providing we are available.
Meds, diapers and other items such as clothing, are not included and most residents have an insurance plan in place that discounts the price of these costs. When a resident needs a hospital bed, one will be delivered so long as the doctor prescribes for one.
The relationships with pharmacies that we use make deliveries directly to us, eliminating the need for a trip and providing us with timely service.
All supervision and care, three meals and three snacks per day, (we keep in mind allergies and dietary restrictions for each resident, too) and all furniture is included, a comfortable bed, a chair, a desk, a drawer, lamps, a nightstand.
Residents are encouraged to bring pictures, books, favorite artworks and music. The Weekes Library is within walking distance, as well. Regular linen changes and all laundry service, Nationwide phone calls, Haircuts and Basic Cable TV are all included in the monthly rate, too. Although, for those who have the need for podiatry, a podiatrist will be called in and the resident shall be responsible for this service, which is usually between 50 to 80 dollars.
Medicine disbursement , bathing and grooming supplies, sponge bathing and shower assistance are handled on a timely, as needed and required and regular basis. Of course, filtered drinking water, gas and electric utilities are included, as well.
We feature regular visits from a live-in volunteer who provides companionship, musical performances from choirs and everything from being a dance partner to a classic card game and board game partner, too. She is available for escorted walks and is another warm heart here at Glory to converse with.
Activities, vary in their regularity and in the times in which they are held throughout the day. Additionally, activities are tailored to the resident likes. If your loved one is seeking many activties on the hour at every hour, a larger community may be more appropriate for him or her. Many of the activities here involve spending time watching programs, movies and gardening, taking walks and in developing camaraderie. We usually have "pizza night," "ice cream socials," and "summer BBQ's. We always get very festive around here during the holidays (and there are many). Smiles are included.
Individuals who have the need for a catheter or oxygen or hospice cases are generally not considered for admittance. The exception is when a resident who is already living here requires hospice care then we are family to the very end. A hospice team will come in and provide nursing assistance during this critical time. At times, because we do have a hospice waiver, we do consider bringing in hopsice patients depending upon their fit into the community and the needs of the individual.
Seniors who wander, fall or exhibit combative behavior due to Alzheimer's or other related illness are not considered. Seniors with mild dementia, however, are admitted until they reach the period of time when their condition requires them to be transferred out to a facility that specalizes in higher levels of care.
In regards to residents who are diabetic and require the use of insulin the resident must be able to self inject for us to admit him or her.
Once we view a Physician's Report and do an "assessment" we will honestly assist you in making the appropriate referrals and recommendations. Anyone who does not pass a TB test, will be not admitted here under any circumstance. Our concern is that your loved one find the right place for his or her own specific needs and health concerns.
We request that you please call ahead for an appointment as this is a private residence. Some hours are more appropriate for visiting your loved one so call ahead--your loved ones would love to see you!
We are very protective of our residents and our community and we discourage unannounced visits.
Do you have the compasion for elders and want to volunteer? Russell can help link you into volunteering to visit seniors through the Friendly Visiting Program offered by the Non Profit Organization, Senior Services Foundation, so if you would like to volunteer to visit isolated seniors who live in the commuinities of Hayward, San Leandro, San Lorenzo and Castro Valley, give him a call at 510-432-8154.
Family members, when planning to take a loved one out of the facility, please provide us with a courteous phone call so that we may prepare the necessary meds and personal items ahead of time for you.
Absolutely. Glory Assisted Living has been in operation since January 2007 and all of our caregivers have worked in Board and Care homes and/or skilled nursing facilities. The majority of our caregivers have in excess of over ten plus years experience in this type of care industry and are constantly being trained in providing the best service possible. When we refer to "best", we mean highly sensitive, compassionate, accomodating and personalized.
The administrator has served in a combination of foster parenting, social services, and in administrator capacities for elderly and mentally ill for well over twenty five years. The co-administrator has served in hospitality management for over twenty years. The staff maintains certification as required by state licensing including medication training. All employees are approved by first passing a finger print and criminal background check with the FBI and DOJ.
Our staff cares. Those three words alone tell the story. We choose to work at GLORY because extending our hands out to those who need our help is what we do and we do it all for a greater Glory than ourselves.
Industry professionals praise our commitment of treating our residents as one family. We offer the utmost in cleanliness, compassion, accommodations and in love.
Additionally, our Administrator's commitment to service and integrity of doing what is in the resident's best interest is what drives referrals. It also helps that the Administrator and the Assistant Administrator live on the premises next door so they are always in touch with what is going on in the lives of your family and friends living at GLORY.
At GLORY we focus on friendship and the quality of life each and every day, and we are proud of what we do and we are grateful to have the opportunity to be in a position to serve and to make a difference in our community. Our residents and our residents' families can provide living testimony to the satisfaction level here at GLORY and it's our ongoing, unwavering commitment to the community to keep it that way. We have been called to serve others and we treat this privilege with honor and the utmost respect.
